Each year the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC)  recognizes drinking water treatment facilities that achieve performance standards of the multi-state Area-Wide Optimization Program (AWOP).  This program is administered through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to facilitate drinking water systems that voluntarily achieved optimization goals more stringent than those required by the Division of Water.  The AWOP Champion Award is given to treatment facilities that reach these goals for three consecutive years.
