The London Utility Commission maintains the water distribution and the wastewater collection systems throughout the City of London. The water distribution system consists of over 100 miles of water distribution mains ranging in size from 2″ to 16″. The system has 1225 gate valves to control the flow throughout the system.
There are 365 fire hydrants for providing fire flow to the community. These fire hydrants are flushed twice per year and flow testing is performed on each hydrant once per year. The hydrants are color coded based on the flow capabilities in accordance is ISO standards. For identification purposes each hydrant is numbered.
There are five water storage tanks in the distribution system ranging in capacity from 500,000 to 2,000,000 gallons. The most recent storage tank was constructed in 2007 and has a capacity of 2,000,000 gallons. The cost of this project was $1,600,000.00. LUC is continually expanding and upgrading facilities to better serve our growing community.
